Negotiations Year

The LEA settled for a 0% pay increase due to the district’s financial situation.

Arbitration Results

Over the summer the results of 2 arbitrations came back in our favor. The first was the Elementary breakfast in the classroom. The arbitrator ruled that breakfast starts when school starts. The elementary start at 8:00 therefore breakfast starts at 8:00 and not before.  The second arbitration was for the High School on aggregate load. The Board side said aggregate load was 150 per day, LEA said aggregate load was per year. The arbitrator said aggregate load is ANNUAL, therefore several high school teachers received compensation for having over 150 students last school year.

Middle Schools and Aggregate Load

If you are a Unified Arts/Explo teacher at the Middle School you might be asking “what about me?” when it comes to aggregate load, because you all have way over 150 students per year. When the switch was made to Middle School back in the 90’s, the LEA leadership at that time did not argue the fact the Explo aggregate load was way above 150. This created past practice which has been set for 15 years. If we were to fight this, we would lose based on this point. It was an error made years ago by  L.E.A. leadership that unfortunately we must live with today.

Maternity Leave

The amount of time you get off either before or after the birth of the baby is totally up to your doctor. There is no 6 week maternity rule, this was done away with several contracts ago. It was decided that the doctor needs to decide how much time and when that time should be taken,  not the school system. All you need is a note from the doctor specifying the dates. You get paid as long as you have sickdays to cover the amount of time you were written off work.
