Notes from the OEA Fall Representative Assembly

5-27-13
For those of you who missed out on the latest edition of NEA Today and didn’t see the RA information, on page 63- Bylaw Amendment 1 is titled “To increase annual NEA membership dues by three dollars and to allocate this increase to a Special Fund to assist NEA affiliates advance great public schools for all studnets.”

This on top of the the extra 1 percent that starts coming out of your paycheck beginning July 1, 2013 through July 1, 2016.

If you thought your paycheck was small, it’s about to get even a whole lot smaller.  We need to stand up and not settle again for no pay increase or anything that is going to shrink our pay anymore.  Why is it that government has this compelling need to keep taking more and more money away from teachers?  I thought the NEA was supposed to help fight for better conditions for teachers, but instead, they seem to be in the same boat as other organizations that want to take more money away from teachers.

When will we say enough is enough?  This wouldn’t be tolerated in most any other profession.
